Male Gaze and Camera Shot

Male gaze is an interesting camera angle used in some films. It is exactly what it sounds like in that the camera frames a woman or parts of her body from the viewpoint of the narrator, most often the male director. Male gaze is often used in movies today. The male gaze tells the viewer what to look at and what to deem important. It is making the assumption to have a specific viewpoint of a certain woman in the shot. It is the way the cameraman or director sees the woman and portrays it in their film. Many camera angles are used to portray this male gaze. And extreme long shot to get a wide angle of view. This allows the director to get a lot in the frame. An extreme close-up is probably the camera shot most used in the male gaze. This shot will zoom in on the assets that the director finds most appealing and most important to the success of the point they are trying to get across. Long shot and medium shot are based on how far back the camera is from the subject. Close-up shot is another camera shot that is most used in the male gaze by narrowing in on those certain aspects.
